Papa Langa
Who is or what is Papa Langa? First a little bit of history ... back in 1998 I
went to
Cameroon
as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I lived in an English speaking (Anglophone)
province and quickly came across "Papa Langa". There was a guy in the neighbor
that would always visit friends just before lunch and dinner. Since the
Cameroonian culture is big on feeding guests, he was always getting free meals.
Later it turned out that the term "Langa" was used to refer to someone who is
always hungry and whose appetite is never completely satisfied.
Captain Tchonko
My father-in-law, Captain Tchonko, is visiting from Cameroon. It's been over
5 years since we last saw each other so we all have a lot of catching up to
do. I'm adding galleries for his family and friends so that he can see what
he's been up to.
U.S. Peace Corps Experience
I served as a Math / Science Education Volunteer for the Peace Corps in
Cameroon from 1998 to 2000. It was a great experience and I highly recommend
signing up for a 2 year stint. I’m planning on adding more galleries filled
with pictures from my time in Cameroon. If there are other
RPCV’s out there with
pictures that they wouldn’t mind sharing with everyone, send me (
Papa Langa ) an email and I’ll upload them to a gallery.
Prime Number Search
I saw this a few years back on Yahoo! and figured that since the computer was
on most of the day, it might has well be doing something useful. Basically you
download a program that runs in the background searching for very large prime
numbers. If you're interested in joining (and in donating some spare CPU
cycles), shoot me an email
and I'll get you the info so you can join my current team account (top 1000 and
climbing).
RPCV Sites
I just caught up with an old Peace Corp friend (and future U.S. Senator) and
he sent me a link to his blog. While checking it out, I stumbled across a link
to another RPCV. They had a few pictures from Cameroon that brought back some
forgotten memories. One was of some kids with these
cool toy cars that they would build from scratch. Check out the links.
